When it comes to practicing mindfulness on a daily basis that can look like a lot of different things. It can include everything from writing in a journal, to being present, or saying kind words to a friend. No matter what it is.....Do It!! Every little bit makes a difference.
Thinking thankful thoughts
When I first wake up I like to think thoughts of gratitude and set my day up right. I also like to think thoughts of gratitude whenever I feel upset. This immediately turns any sad thoughts around and catapults me into a more positive space in my mind.
Noticing what is around me
This is a really great practice, I enjoy doing it a lot. I like to stop whatever I am doing and notice what is happening with the 6 senses. What do I hear, see, feel, taste, smell, observe. Doing this instantly brings me into the present and I always feel so calm and peaceful. I highly recommend trying it. No matter what is on my mind it always tends to get really small and insignificant whenever I get into the moment.
Writing in a journal
I feel like I could be better about writing in a journal. I like to write down my daily gratitudes. But when it comes to writing about anything and everything,I tend to write when I am upset. And you know what, it's ok. I find that when I do this it makes the problems seem like nothing. Then I start to wonder why I had been fretting so much over something that isn't really that big of a deal. It was all in my head.
Making a cup of tea
When I make a cup of tea it really brings me into the moment because I take my time in selecting the tea and putting the organic matter or bags into the tea pot. Once I have poured the water over the herbs I notice the steam rising off the pot. The best part is holding the mug of warm liquid in my hands. I love the sensation of having warm hands and smelling the wonderful brew.
Every day we are blessed with many new opportunities to practice mindfulness. What do you do?
